The Flashpoint XPLOR 300 Pro R2 sits in a very interesting position: not as compact as a speedlight, not as powerful as a full studio strobe—but arguably the most balanced lighting tool for modern photographers.
After spending time with it in real-world shoots—portraits, outdoor sessions, and mobile setups—it becomes clear why so many photographers call this the “sweet spot” in the Flashpoint (Godox) ecosystem.
This is not just a light. It’s a workflow upgrade.

DESIGN & BUILD

The first thing you notice about the XPLOR 300 Pro is its form factor.
It’s cylindrical, compact, and feels like a hybrid between:
- A traditional monolight
- A large speedlight
At just over 1.4kg (3 lbs), it’s extremely portable for a 300Ws unit. This makes it ideal for:
- Travel shoots
- Outdoor portrait sessions
- Event photographers working on location
The rear LCD is bright and clear—even under sunlight—and the control dial is responsive, making quick adjustments effortless.
Mounting is flexible:
- Native direct mount accessories
- Optional Bowens mount (via adapter)
- Compatible with a wide ecosystem of modifiers
This flexibility is a huge advantage compared to many portable lights.
REAL-WORLD PERFORMANCE

Power & Output
At 300Ws, this light hits a sweet balance:
- Strong enough to overpower sunlight
- Not overkill for indoor setups
For most photographers, this means:
- One light can handle 80% of scenarios
- No need to carry bulky 600Ws units
High-Speed Sync (HSS)
One of its standout features is HSS up to 1/8000s.
This allows:
- Shooting wide open (f/1.8, f/2.8) in daylight
- Freezing motion in bright environments
In practice, HSS performance is stable and consistent—especially when paired with the R2 trigger system.
Recycle Time & Consistency
- Recycle time: 0.01 – 1.5 seconds
- Extremely reliable across power levels
Even during fast-paced shoots, the light keeps up without slowing you down.
Color consistency is also impressive:
- Standard: ~5600K
- Stable color mode tightens variance
This matters for professional workflows where color accuracy is critical.
BATTERY & PORTABILITY

The 14.4V 2600mAh lithium-ion battery is one of the highlights.
Real-world usage:
- Hundreds of flashes per charge
- Quick swap system
- No cables, no hassle
This is where the XPLOR 300 Pro shines compared to traditional studio strobes:
👉 True cordless freedom
You can literally pack multiple units and shoot anywhere.
LIGHT QUALITY & CONTROL
Light quality is clean, neutral, and professional.
Key highlights:
- Smooth falloff
- Accurate color rendering
- Works well with both soft and hard modifiers
The bi-color LED modeling light (3000K–6000K) is surprisingly useful:
- Helps preview lighting direction
- Works for hybrid photo/video setups
While not extremely powerful, it adds flexibility in real shooting conditions.
R2 ECOSYSTEM (THE REAL ADVANTAGE)
4
The XPLOR 300 Pro is part of the Flashpoint R2 / Godox ecosystem—and this is a huge deal.
- Works with Canon, Sony, Nikon, Fuji, etc.
- Built-in 2.4GHz receiver
- Range up to 100m (328 ft)
- Supports TTL, Manual, Multi
You can build a full lighting system:
- Mix 200, 300, 400, 600Ws lights
- Control everything from one trigger
This scalability makes it a long-term investment, not just a single tool.

The Review
Flashpoint XPLOR 300 Pro R2
So far Im happy with this bundle, especially since I got it on sale during the holidays. The ad300 is extremely portable. I also like the 33inch soft box. Its easy to set up and the godox mount is helpful in reducing the size of the kit. Hope it can give me a few years of good use. The light stand has good height but it's bulky, not a bad thing if you're not moving it around too much. I went and bought a different stand but this does the job if needed.
