Fujifilm has officially unveiled the new Fujifilm GFX 100S II, a next-generation medium format camera that combines high-end imaging performance with a lighter and more affordable design.
The camera features a massive 102MP medium format sensor powered by the X-Processor 5 engine, delivering exceptional image detail, dynamic range, and low-light performance. Fujifilm says the sensor is approximately 1.7x larger than a traditional full-frame sensor, giving photographers greater depth and tonal accuracy.
One of the biggest upgrades is the introduction of AI-powered subject detection autofocus. The system can automatically recognize:
- Animals
- Birds
- Cars
- Motorcycles
- Trains
- Airplanes
- Insects
- Drones
This significantly improves tracking performance compared to the original GFX 100S, especially for fast-moving subjects.
The new body weighs just 883g, making it the lightest camera in Fujifilm’s GFX lineup. Despite the smaller design, it still includes advanced 8-stop in-body image stabilization and supports 4K 30P 10-bit video recording.
Fujifilm also improved the camera’s low-light capabilities with a native ISO80 setting and redesigned micro-lens technology for better edge-to-edge light efficiency and autofocus accuracy.
At $4,999, the GFX 100S II positions itself as a more accessible alternative to the flagship GFX 100 II while still offering premium medium format performance for photographers and content creators.
For photographers looking to step into the world of ultra-high-resolution medium format imaging without carrying oversized gear, the Fujifilm GFX 100S II may become one of the most compelling camera releases of the year.
